Brian Houle


Originally from North Dakota, he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Anthropology and Geoscience from Minnesota State University Moorhead.  Brian worked as an archeologist throughout the Western United States. Following a stint abroad in New Zealand, Brian fell in love with climbing and decided to follow his passion, leave archeology, and join the Mountain Training School in Chile.  At MTS, Brian studied wilderness navigation, glacier mountaineering, alpine skiing, and rock climbing in Patagonia, Alaska, and Spain. Working as a freelance guide in northern Thailand, Brian has developed outdoor curriculum for large student groups, SRT courses, and guide training programs.  In 2012, Brian trained the first Thai guides to pass the AMGA SPI course and exam. 

Brian has also developed risk management plans and emergency response protocols for a number of companies, setting the the standard for outdoor operators.

Currently Brian spends his time guiding for Alpine Ascents International when not working in Asia
